I spent 15+ years in corporate finance before starting this practice. My background spans Fortune 500 companies, PE-backed firms, mid-market businesses, and government organizations. I've held roles in FP&A, financial reporting, and finance leadership. I've also started, grown, and sold my own e-commerce business.
I started Alex Smith Finance because I saw a gap that kept showing up. Small business owners were making decisions off financial data that was incomplete, late, or flat-out wrong. They deserved the same quality of work I'd delivered in corporate, at a price that made sense for their business.
When I take on a client, I'm not just categorizing transactions. Every line gets reviewed with the same judgment I've applied to eight-figure budgets and board-level reporting. You get a finance partner, not just a bookkeeper.
How I Work
Every engagement starts with a conversation. I learn your business, look at your current books, and figure out exactly what you need. Then I put together a clear scope and a fixed monthly price. No surprises, no scope creep, no hourly billing.
From there, I oversee every aspect of your financials. Every account is reconciled, every set of books is reviewed with CFO-level judgment, and you get financial statements you can actually use. If something looks off, I flag it. If I spot an opportunity, I'll tell you. When you call, you get me. When you have a question, I answer it.
